James F. Deno

James Fredrick Deno, “Jim” age 83 of Brook passed away Saturday July 15, 2017. Jim was born on March 2, 1934 in Goodland, son of Edward and Marie (Jasheway) Deno. He was a lifelong resident of Newton County. He graduated from Mt. Ayr High School in 1952. Jim served his country during the Korean War from 1956 to 1958. On April 10, 1958 he married his wife of 59 years Martha (Riegle) Deno. Jim was a lifetime farmer retiring in 2002, but the love of his profession compelled him to continue helping do the work on the farm.

When Jim was not farming he loved fishing, snowmobiling, taking pictures and video of his children, grandchildren, family and friends all while enjoying his Juicy Fruit gum. Reunions with his Army buddies were also on his list of many things he loved to do. Jim was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Martha, two daughters and three sons; Helen (husband Mark) Best, Allen (wife Carol) Deno, Doug (wife Lori) Deno, Scott (wife Maureen) Deno and Julie (husband Pete) Andreis. Jim is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one brother Richard (wife Mary Lou) Deno. He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 1 brother.

Friends may visit with the family Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. (CST) at the Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A Mass of Christian Burial will held Thursday 11:00 a.m. (CST) at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer with Father Donald Davidson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Rensselaer with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church building fund.
