Janet I. Burton

Janet I. Burton, 80, of Brook passed away May 15, 2024 at Franciscan Health Indianapolis. She was born in Rensselaer on Jan. 7, 1944, the daughter of Charles F. Richards and Irene C. (Murphy) Richards.

On Dec. 30, 1991, in Kentland, she married Walter C. Burton. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2021.

Janet worked for 30 years at Per Pak in Foresman, and later worked at Coils in Kentland. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Brook. She enjoyed working in her yard. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her three children: Chuck Richards, Kimberly Burton, and Donnie Richards; two granddaughters, Ashley Manns and Morgan Cothran (Brent); five great-grandchildren: Jace O’Neil, Blake Cavanaugh, Olivia Cavanaugh, Braelyn Cothran, and Madelyn Cothran; one sister, Maxine Honn; and her good friend and neighbor Fran Styck.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter; her parents; three brothers: Charles Richards, Paul Richards, and infant brother Thomas Richards; two sisters, Betty Honn and Judy Reid; two brothers-in-law, Harold Honn and Marion Honn; and sister-in-law Kathy Richards.

Visitation will be Friday, May 24, 2024 from 10 a.m. until noon at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Brook on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 12:45 p.m. with Chauncey Lattimer officiating.
