Jerry Madson Brooks

Jerry Madson Brooks, Sr., 89, of DeMotte, Indiana, passed away at his home on September 23, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on March 9, 1937, in Dante, Virginia, Jerry attended school in Virginia before moving to Indiana at the age of 17 with the goal of working for U.S. Steel. That determination shaped much of his life, and he went on to retire from U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana after working there for many years.

Jerry will be remembered as a stubborn, tough, hilarious, and funny man, and above all as a great man who loved his family dearly. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting the gun range, mowing his lawn, and gathering for Sunday dinners with his kids. He also enjoyed watching westerns and collecting coins.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Wilson, and his son, Cecil Brooks. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Carissa (Andrew) Underwood, Ashley (Justin) DeMoss, and Devon (Stacey) Wilson; and his great-grandchildren, Makayla Beverly, Ogden Underwood, Bently Wilson, Xzavier DeMoss, Ryder Nelson, and Lillian Wilson. The family he cherished so deeply will carry forward the memory of his strength, humor, and love.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Brooks; his son, Jerry Brooks, Jr.; his son-in-law, Todd Wilson; his father, William Brooks; his mother, Maude Brooks; his brothers, Neil Brooks, Verlon Brooks, and Herman Brooks; and his sister, Wilma Austin.

Jerry’s life was marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a personality that left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
