Rensselaer, IN

Joseph Edward Gudeman, 42, of Rensselaer, Indiana, passed away of a heart condition on September 2, 2026. He was born on June 21, 1984, in Lafayette, Indiana, the son of Jill Wilson and Gary Gudeman.

Joe was a proud graduate of Rensselaer Central High School and went on to graduate from Indiana State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He built a career as an insurance agent with Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, serving for 17 years.

He was very involved with the Rensselaer Schools sports programs, generously donating his time and energy to the students and community he cared about. Joe loved sports and was an avid Michigan fan. He also enjoyed playing golf at Curtis Creek, where he hosted many fundraising golf outings. Sports were a central part of his life and having his friends over for games was the highlight of every sports season.

Nothing meant more to Joe than his son Jaxson. Jaxson inherited Joe’s bright light and larger than life presence. Joe’s loving spirit shines through Jaxson’s eyes.

Joe was a helper who always had a huge smile, kind word, and clever quip. His loyalty, and willingness to give of himself left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

He is survived by his son, Jaxson Gudeman; his mother, Jill Wilson; his step-father, Greg Wilson; his sister, Kelly Gudeman, and her fiancé, Ryan Farrar; his former wife, Julie Gudeman; and his faithful companion, his dog Winnie. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leon and Marjorie Primeau, and paternal grandparents, Milton and Barbara Gudeman.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. CDT at Curtis Creek Country Club, 5385 S. 1080 W, Rensselaer, Indiana 47978.
