Kathleen Ann Marie Sayers

Kathleen Ann Marie “Kathy” Sayers, 70, of Rensselaer, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 10, 2019. She was born in Gary on March 18, 1949 to the late Jerome Anthony Engel, Sr. and Deloris Ellen (Delfeny) Engel. She graduated from North Newton High School in 1968. On February 14, 1978, in Monticello, she married Lawrence Eugene “Larry” Sayers.

Kathy worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for Jasper County Hospital and the Rensselaer Care Center. She worked for Jasper County Hospital Home Health Care and Hospice for 20 years. She was a compassionate caregiver and was very dedicated to her patients. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and in her younger years she enjoyed bowling and fishing. She liked listening to pop music and was a huge Lionel Richie fan.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Larry Sayers; four children: Diana (Luis) Delmuro, Terry Sayers, Scott (Stephanie) Sayers and Julie (Ray) Sherwood; one brother, Jerome Anthony “Tony” Engel, Jr.; and 8 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Tom Engel.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 12 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Pastor Rick Fay officiating. The family requests everyone wears casual attire. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
