Kathy Lynn Geren, 67, of Rensselaer, IN passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Franciscan Health Rensselaer. She was born in Valparaiso, IN on March 3, 1958, the daughter of Erbie L. and Mary K. (Hetric) Banister. She was a 1976 graduate of Rensselaer Central High School.
After high school, Kathy began working as a cook at the 76 truck stop in Remington. She then was a stay-at-home mom while her children were growing up. She went back to work at the Rensselaer Walmart, where she was in charge of shipping and distribution, and later returned to the 76 truck stop where she was in charge of inventory for the retail store. She also had delivered cars for Ed White Auto Sales.
Kathy enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, playing on her computer and cell phone, and watching TV.
She married her high school sweetheart, David Leslie Geren on September 24, 1977. They were married for 47 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four sons: Thomas Adam Geren of Rensselaer, Ryan David Geren (wife Petricia) of Shelbyville, IN, Michael Stephen Geren of Rensselaer, IN and Daniel Calvin Geren (wife Stephanie) of Milford, IL. Also surviving is her brother, Raymond Banister of Oxford, IN, 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Erbie Ronald Banister; and her sister Suzie Howard.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A Celebration of Life service for Kathy will be held immediately following the visitation at 6 p.m. with Pastor Bill Taylor officiating.
