Lawrence E. Sayers

Lawrence E. “Larry” Sayers , 76, of Rensselaer, passed away at his home Saturday November 19, 2022. He was born May 20, 1946 to Ernest Sayers and Ethel Sayers.

Larry attended Rensselaer Schools and on February 14, 1978 he married Kathleen Engel, she preceded him in death on September 10, 2019.

Larry worked as a mechanic and supervisor for the State of Indiana Highway Department, retiring with 43 years of service. He loved fishing and competed in many Bass Fishing Tournaments in the Northwestern Indiana area. Larry also enjoyed hunting, target shooting and reloaded much of the ammo he used.

Larry was a Navy Veteran and believed in donating to organizations that helped disabled veterans. He was a member of the Rensselaer V.F.W. and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Larry is survived by his two sons: Terry Sayers, and Scott Sayers, and his 2 daughters Julie Sherwood and Diana (husband Luis) Delmuro. Also surviving are nine Grandchildren, six Great-Grandchildren, and two brothers Jon and Carl Sayers. He is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen and his parents.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 10 a.m. till 12 noon (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at noon (CST) on Saturday at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Mark Spangler officiating. Interment will follow the service at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
