Leane M. Zickmund

Leane M. Zickmund, 83, of Rensselaer, passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014 at Jasper County Hospital. She was born in Hammond on Oct. 30, 1930, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Horvath) Horwath. She graduated from Hammond High School in 1948. On May 7, 1949, in Rensselaer, she married her husband of 65 years, Raymond Zickmund.

Leane worked as a hairdresser and a telephone operator in Highland, prior to moving to Rensselaer 50 years ago. She was a homemaker, and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer, and was a prior President of the Women’s Circle at the church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning and baking.

Leane is survived by her loving family: husband, Raymond Zickmund of Rensselaer; two daughters: Kathy DuBois of Winamac and Cindy (Randy) Cook of Rensselaer; one son, Ray, Jr. (Linda) Zickmund of Rensselaer; her brother, William Horwath of Culver; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by: her parents, William and Mary Horwath; and a son-in-law, Zale DuBois, Jr.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014 from 3-8 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at 10 a.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Pastor Philip Leichty officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
