Lela Cox

August 22, 1918 — May 10, 2009

Lela A. Cox, 90, of Morocco, passed away May 10, 2009 at Rensselaer Care Center. She was born in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas on August 22, 1918, the youngest of six daughters of James and Mary Earls Bartley. She graduated from Hickory Ridge High School and moved to Indiana in 1937 where she lived with a sister in Rensselaer. On October 23, 1939 she married her husband, Lawson E. Cox of Morocco. He survives. They moved to Enos, IN in 1943 where they owned and operated the Enos Texaco station and restaurant that later became The Willow Inn. In 1954 they moved to Morocco. She spent many happy retirement winters with friends in River Ranch, Florida where she enjoyed golf, fishing and travel. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Morocco United Church and was "famous" for her homemade pies. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a willing volunteer for many projects. She and Lawson would have been married for 70 years this coming October. She will be sadly missed by family and friends alike. Per Lela's wishes she will be cremated following the funeral service and interment will be at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Morocco.
