Leta Blanche (Cunningham) Nagel, 93, passed away peacefully on Dec. 16, 2023. Leta was born on July 10, 1930 to the late Elijah and Beatrice (Piatt) Cunningham.
Leta was a graduate of Fair Oaks High School. She had one brother, Billy Cunningham, and three sisters: Emma Jean, Bernice, and Lola Mae. All siblings preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Augustine Parish. She was a lifelong resident of the area, and on June 23, 1948 she married Francis “Al” Nagel. He preceded her in death Dec. 1, 2002. Together they had nine children.
She is survived by eight children: Phyllis Murray of Lafayette, Micheal (Rosemary) Nagel of Brook, Marvin (Pamela) Nagel of Leesburg, FL, Nancy Miller of Pell City, AL, Kay Williams of Goshen, OH, Kevin Nagel of Okeechobee, FL, Gregory Nagel (Kim Clouse) of Rensselaer, Carol (David) Richter of Brook; and daughter-in-law Gail Nagel. Also surviving are 49 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son Kenneth; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023 from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023 at 12 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joshua Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Leta’s name may be made to St. Augustine School, 328 N. McKinley Ave., Rensselaer, IN 47978, or Franciscan Health Hospice Care, Attention: Hospice Manager, 101 W. 61st Ave, Hobart, IN 46342. On check memo write: Leta Nagel.
