Linda Diana Stevens

Linda Diana Stevens, 70, of Rensselaer, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, June 15, 2019. She was born in Rensselaer on June 21, 1948 to the late Albert Lee Kerns and Juanita June (Maxwell) Kerns. She was a graduate of Rensselaer High School, Class of 1966, and Porter Business College. On December 8, 1968, in Rensselaer, she married her best friend and husband of 50 years, Max Orvil Stevens. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2018.

Linda went to work for the Farmers & Merchants National Bank right out of college, eventually becoming in charge of the bookkeeping department. She retired from Lafayette Bank & Trust in 2004 after 35 years of service. She then worked for the Recorder’s Office at the Jasper County Courthouse.

She was active with her husband Max in the J.C. Cruisers car club for many years and enjoyed the many weekends spent with friends at car shows. Although she never gambled, she enjoyed many fun trips to Las Vegas with her husband and close friends. She loved fashion and enjoyed shopping for the latest trends.

She loved her family and especially enjoyed their famous unscheduled visits. Any time spent with her grandsons was her favorite. She dedicated the last ten years making sure that her husband lived the best life possible while battling cancer.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Donna (Jason) Horner of Rensselaer; two grandsons, Zachary Horner of Indianapolis and Jace Horner of Rensselaer; one brother, Gale (Noreen) Kerns of Rensselaer; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Max; and her sister, Becky VanMeter Kerns.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Rev. Jeff Cover officiating. Interment will follow at Weston Cemetery.
