Lois Hensel

April 12, 1944 — March 12, 2012

Lois Hensel, age 67 of Morocco, passed away Monday, Mar. 12, 2012 at Monroe Regional Hospital in Ocala, FL. She was born in Rensselaer on April 12, 1944, daughter of the late Glenn V. Morgan and Marie I. Grant Morgan. Lois was a lifelong Morocco area resident. She graduated from Morocco High School. In June of 1976, in Morocco, she married David Hensel and he survives.


Lois graduated from Indiana University and went on to earn her master’s degree in nursing from Purdue University. She was a RN and was the school nurse for the North Newton School Corp. for 34 years. While there she not only bandaged knees, but mended hearts for many children. After retiring, she was the Newton County Step-Ahead Coordinator for several years. She continued to work for many causes for the school, such as being an activist to help prevent bullying in schools. Lois received the Newton County Woman of the Year Award for 2011 given by the Newton County Community Foundation.


Lois was a dedicated member of the Morocco First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and serving on various committees. She was a loyal member of Projects Unlimited, the Newton County Drug Coalition, and other community and professional organizations. She enjoyed being a part of the Newton County Punkin Vine Fair as the Supt. Of the Domestic Arts Building for several years.


Lois enjoyed attending her nieces and nephews activities throughout the years. She enjoyed her fishing trips, her winters in Florida and her getaways with her husband and friends. She was a kind, caring, compassionate person who touched the lives of many people. Her always-present smile will continue to shine in all who knew and loved her.


Lois is survived by: her loving husband David Hensel and three sisters: Joyce Fertig (husband: Jerry) of Donovan, IL, Beverly Bell (husband: Lloyd) of CA, and Barbara Brown (husband: Russell) of Brook. Eleven nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and nephews also survive. Lois was preceded in death by: her parents, Glenn and Marie Morgan; and two brothers: Robert and Archie Morgan.


Friends may call Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 2-6 p.m. CDT at the Morocco Elementary School Gymnasium, 310 S. Lincoln Street in Morocco. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, March 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. CDT at the Morocco First United Methodist Church, 203 S. Clay Street in Morocco. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Morocco First United Methodist Church.
