Louine Malone

January 28, 1922 — February 17, 2013

Louine L. Malone, 91, of Rensselaer, passed away Sunday morning, February 17, 2013 at the Jasper County Hospital. Louine was born in Jasper County on January 28, 1922, daughter of the late William and Lula (Hickman) Phares. She was educated at country schools and graduated from Fair Oaks High School in 1941. She was a resident of Jasper County for most of her life.


On August 6, 1949, in Rensselaer, Louine married Merle I. “Banty” Malone. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1995. She worked at Jasper County Hospital for 32 years, first at the old hospital as a surgical assistant, and as the head of central purchasing and supply at the new hospital. Louine was a member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church of Rensselaer. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and a past member of the Jolly Homemakers. She enjoyed bowling and sewing.


Louine is survived by one daughter, Rebecca (Mrs. Dennis) Wilder of Remington; two grandchildren: Alysia Dickinson (Mrs. Jim) Rouse of Remington, and Andrew Paul (Athena) Dickinson of Austin, TX; five great-grandchildren: Alysan Rouse, Mark Rouse, and Ashton Dickinson of Remington, and Nathanial Moorhouse and Reece Dickinson of Austin, TX; two sisters: Alberta (Mrs. Marvin) Gwin of Monticello, and Ardith Kay (Mrs. Joe) Lambert of The Villages, FL; and one brother, James (Sheila) Siebert of Watseka, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one grandson.


Friends may call on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 4 – 8 p.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Rev. Frederick C. Nose officiating. Interment will follow at Weston Cemetery.
