Mamie S. Babbitt, age 96, formerly of Morocco passed away at Brownsburg Meadows Nursing Home in Brownsburg, IN on January 11, 2013. Mamie was born in Donovan, IL on August 20, 1916, daughter of the late John and Nellie (Grant) Anderson. She was a lifelong resident of the Morocco area and a graduate of Donovan High School. On January 28, 1939 she married Ivan Wesley Babbitt at the Beaver Church in Donovan. He died July 2, 2007. Mamie had worked for the Morocco Courier, cooked at Merchant’s Restaurant and was a member of the cafeteria staff at the Morocco School. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Morocco and was a member of the Pythian Sisters and Eastern Star. Mamie enjoyed cooking, camping and family times.
Surviving are daughters; Kathryn (Kay) Niedert of Crown Point and Marilyn (Marve) Hert of Brownsburg, also 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, 2 daughters and 1 brother.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Morocco.
Friends may visit with the family at the First United Methodist Church in Morocco on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from 11:30 until time of funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Wayne Williams will officate. Interment follows at Oakland Cemetery in Morocco.
