Margaret Allen

Margaret T. Allen, age 88 of Brook, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at George Ade Memorial Healthcare Center. She was born in Eatonton, GA on March 25, 1923, daughter of the late John Berry Gardner and Mattie Mae (Alford) Gardner.

Margaret spent most of her life in Georgia. On Jan. 26, 1940, she married Edison W. Allen in Eatonton, GA. He preceded her in death in 1987. She was a seamstress at a shirt factory in Eatonton for many years, retiring in 1985. She had been a resident of Newton County since 1999. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, and helping others.

Margaret is survived by two sons, Otis Paul Allen (wife: Debra) and Robert Melvin Allen, all of Camilla, GA; two daughters, Martha Lou Webb (husband: Harliss) of Ambia, IN, and Margaret Jean Fisher (husband “Fish”) of Kingsland, GA; a brother, Bobby Gardner (wife: Ida Lou); and a sister, Lula Hamby (husband: Bill) all of Eatonton, GA. 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren also survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, David L. Allen and Jerry Wayne Allen, two brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Madison, GA at 10 a.m. (EST) Saturday, July 23, 2011. Rev. Grady Paul Gardner officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family or the Alzheimer’s Association. Steinke Funeral Home Brunton Chapel of Morocco is handling the arrangements.
