Marie Louise Barton, 93, of Fair Oaks, passed away Sunday morning, July 28, 2013 at the Rensselaer Care Center. She was born in Henry County, Ohio on Dec. 3, 1919, the daughter of Albert and Lydia (Norton) Hogrefe. She grew up in Ohio and attended school there. On Aug. 8, 1941, she married Albert Barton. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 2001.
Marie was a farm wife and was of the Lutheran faith. She attended St. John Lutheran Church in Union Township, and later became a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Rensselaer. She was a former Sunday School Superintendent and President of the Ladies Aid at St. John Lutheran Church. Marie enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, growing flowers, bird watching, taking walks and being outdoors. She also enjoyed bowling with her women’s bowling team on Wednesday mornings. She cherished her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her precious grandkids.
Marie is survived by her loving family: six children: Guy (Betty) Barton of Rensselaer, Al “Cork” (Diana) Barton of Hebron, Donna Arndt of Rensselaer, Neal (Gloria) Barton of Rensselaer, Norita Schultz of Rensselaer and Lisa Nydegger of Lafayette; six siblings: Donald Hogrefe (Prudy) of Livonia, MI, Elmer Hogrefe and David Hogrefe, both of Ohio, Dorothy Ford of Yellsville, AR, Thomas Hogrefe (Kathy) of Rogers City, MI, and Barbara Sorentino (Larry) of Seattle, WA; 21 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; one grandson; and three sons-in-law.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (CDT) at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held at the church at 11:30 a.m. (CDT) with Pastor Benjamin Hertel officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Union Township.
