Marie Wheeldon-Denham

August 17, 1942 — September 22, 2022

Marie Wheeldon-Denham (Powell), 80, of Rensselaer, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. She was born in Rensselaer on August 17, 1942, the daughter of Woodrow Wilson Powell and Barbara (Hoover) Powell.


On November 5, 1960 she married Thomas Wheeldon. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1999.


In July of 2008 she married Hershel Denham, and he survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Michael (Carla) Wheeldon of Rensselaer and Brian Wheeldon of Wolcott, two grandchildren, Patricia (Dave) Williams of Lafayette and Joshua (Amber) Wheeldon of Crawfordsville; and 8 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one son, Thomas Wheeldon; and her brother, Roy Powell.


Marie worked in the kitchen at St. Joseph’s College for over 30 years. She attended the Wolcott Christian Church. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. She loved flowers and plants, gardening, and socializing. She also enjoyed riding a motorcycle with her husband, Hershel.


Visitation will be Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral at 12 noon (Central Time) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Pastor Tom Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Milroy Cemetery, Rensselaer.
