November 14, 1926 — March 23, 2016

Marilois Anderson, 89, of Morocco, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center. She was born in Scottsburg, Indiana on November 14, 1926, daughter of the late Gordon B. Carter and Permelia J. (Garriott) Carter. She graduated from Morocco High School with the class of 1944. She was very active in high school; she was a cheerleader and played in the band. She went on to attend nursing school in Anderson. On March 21, 1948, in Morocco, she married her husband of 58 years, Milton S. Anderson. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2007.

Marilois and Milton had three children: Jilldean, Jenalyn and John. As a young woman, Marilois kept busy raising her family, being a farmer’s wife and pursuing a career in nursing. She was passionate about nursing. Early in her career, she worked as a private nurse for local doctors. She used to make house calls to patients in Morocco and Lake Village. She then went into industrial nursing and was the nurse at Permonite Manufacturing in Morocco. Later she transitioned into hospital nursing and worked at George Ade Memorial Hospital in Brook. Prior to her retirement, she spent her winters in Florida and worked as a nurse at a nursing home in Oldsmar, Florida, and while in Indiana was a nurse at the Kentland Nursing Home.

She loved being outdoors. She enjoyed walking, riding her bike, and gardening. She enjoyed canning and she was an excellent cook. She was also a voracious reader. A sundial at the Morocco Public Library was installed in her honor for her 80th birthday. Most of all Marilois enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marilois is survived by her loving family: two daughters, Jilldean Hammel (husband: Woodrow) and Jenalyn Reninger (husband: Robert S.); one son, John M. “Jack” Anderson; four grandchildren: Courtney Hammel, Kristen Grzych (husband: Andrew), Kacey Crncic (husband: John), and Tyler S. Reninger (wife: Kacha); six great-grandchildren: Dylan, Drew and Tanner Grzych, and Ivanna, Joe and Grant Crncic; and two sisters: Barbara Parsons and Betty Northcutt.
