Marjorie graduated from Tolleston School and studied Elementary Education at Indiana University. She was Poet Laureate of Gary, IN. Although she frequently served as a substitute teacher, her true vocation was serving others. She volunteered her gifts as an artist, teacher, and musician; teaching Sunday School, playing piano during Sunday Services, and painting murals on Church walls. Whether serving on the Church Board or washing dishes after a wedding dinner, she dedicated her life to serving the Lord.
Jerry and Marjorie lived in Lake County until 1984, when they moved to Monticello, IN. There they became very active in the Buffalo Christian Church and Senior Citizen programs. Marjorie opened her home to family and friends as a place filled with music and laughter. She held Bible Study in her home for neighbors and their children. Her neighbors often became like family to her, as with Sandy Vanderploeg and her children, Stephanie and Chad. She also gave art lessons in her home for many years, making sure everyone who attended walked away feeling as if they had painted a masterpiece. They also formed a band, with Marjorie playing piano and Jerry accompanying on guitar. They entertained frequently at clubs and events in the Monticello area. In 2000 Marjorie and Jerry moved to Rensselaer to be closer to their daughter.
Marjorie will be remembered by family and friends for her deep Christian faith, her zest for life, and her love of all children.
