Mary Kanney

Mary J. Kanney, 85 of Rensselaer passed away at Jasper County Hospital on February 26, 2009. She was born in Surrey in Jasper County, Indiana on June 6, 1923, daughter of the late Joseph J. and Emma (Zacher) Thomas. She graduated from Rensselaer Central High School with the Class of 1941 and in 1944 graduated from St. Margaret's School of Nursing in Hammond with an R.N. degree. On February 11, 1947 in Rensselaer she married Arthur J. Kanney. He preceded her in death December 26, 1967. She retired in 2001 following 57 years of Nursing. She worked in various medical facilities as an R.N. and was Director of Nursing at Rensselaer Care Center from 1973 until 1988. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer. For 35 years she was an active member of the Jasper County Unit of American Cancer Society. She was also an active member of the Christian Women of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She enjoyed her profession in Nursing and loved to cook and enjoyed her family and friends.
