Max Weltzin

May 10, 1936 — June 17, 2012

Max O. Weltzin, age 76, of Rensselaer, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Jasper County Hospital. He was born in Rensselaer on May 10, 1936, son of the late Otto Henry and Laura (Maxwell) Weltzin. He graduated from Rensselaer High School and was a lifelong area resident.


Max worked as a project supervisor for the Indiana State Highway Department, LaPorte District for 30 years, retiring in 2006. He had also previously worked as a manager for Weinberg’s Hardware Store. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge of Rensselaer. Max enjoyed working outdoors, mowing the lawn and spending time with his grandkids.


Max is survived by his loving family: wife Connie Campbell of Rensselaer; daughter Karyn Taylor of Lafayette; step-son Ted Oliver of Florida; step-daughter Carla Arndt (husband: Heath) of Rensselaer; brother-in-law Jim Davisson of Kalamazoo, MI; grandson Anthony Taylor of Ohio; granddaughter Courtney Arndt of Rensselaer; granddaughter Sydney Arndt of Rensselaer; granddaughter Kyleigh Oliver of Kokomo; and great-grandson Alyx Taylor of Ohio. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by: his parents Otto Henry and Laura (Maxwell) Weltzin; two brothers: Ralph Weltzin and Wade Weltzin; three sisters: Marcia Davisson, Ellen Bisher and Jean Haven; and two grandsons: Alyxander Weltzin-Taylor and Andrew Taylor.


Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 10 a.m. until noon at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home at noon. Donations in Max’s memory are suggested to the family.
