Maxine Miller, 91, of Rensselaer, passed away Sunday morning, July 21st at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. She was born May 4, 1922 in Salyersville, KY, the daughter of Bernie and Celia (Howard) Manns. She grew up in Salyersville, attended school and graduated from high school there.
On October 18, 1955 Maxine married her husband of 57 years, Forrest Miller. She met Forrest while working for the ammunition plant in Kingsbury, IN. Maxine was a homemaker and owned and operated country grocery stores in Newland and on State Road 14 in Jasper County. She attended the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Wheatfield. Her interests included cooking, gardening, growing flowers, and collecting antique china. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching old TV shows, especially "I Love Lucy", "The Andy Griffith Show", and old westerns. She enjoyed socializing and visiting with people, especially her family, and spending time with her poodle, Lulu.
Maxine is survived by her husband Forrest Miller; two sons, R.C. Jackson (Sherry) and Mac Howard (Linda), all of Wheatfield; two daughters, Mary Lee of San Pierre and Celia “Pat” Hershman (Bill) of Wheatfield; two brothers, Bill Manns (Thelma) of Gifford and Ernie Manns (Leta) of Texas; one sister, Maudeline Campbell (Raymond) of San Pierre; 23 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; two sons; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 24th from 10 a.m. until noon (CDT) at the Full Gospel Tabernacle, located on State Road 49 south of Wheatfield. Funeral services will be at noon (CDT) at the church with Pastor Tom Dewlen officiating. Interment will follow at Wheatfield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Parkview Haven Retirement Home.
