Milton Douglas Sanders

Milton Douglas “Doug” Sanders, 80, of Monticello, Indiana and Palmetto, Florida, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2020 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born in Medaryville, Indiana on September 10, 1939, son of the late Milton R. Sanders and Irene (Heffner) Sanders.


Doug was a graduate of Medaryville High School and attended Valparaiso University. He served his country in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. In 1959 he married Sonja Malia, and she survives.


He was the owner/operator of a thriving motorcycle business, Sanders Cycle, in Rensselaer, Indiana from 1975 until 1999. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Medaryville.


Doug enjoyed spending time talking with people and seldom was there a lack of words. It was always a “Good Morning” no matter what time of day it was. He was one of a kind and if you ever met him, you wouldn’t forget him. He will be missed by so very many.


He is survived by his wife, Sonja Sanders of Monticello, Indiana; two sons, Jeff (Elaine) Sanders of West Lafayette, Indiana and Vance (Michele) Sanders of Tampa, Florida; one sister, Sharon (Tom) Valko of Schererville, Indiana; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brett Alan Sanders; and one granddaughter, LaRissa Sanders.
