Otha Gene Baker

Otha Gene Baker passed away at his home in Rensselaer, Indiana on October 31, 2021. Gene was born September 3, 1939 in Naomi, Kentucky. He lived most of his life in Rensselaer and in recent years also in Mexico Beach and Port Saint Joe, Florida.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, Delno Baker, his mother Vinnie Tarter Baker, and his wife of 50 years, Wanda Marie (Porter) Baker. He is survived by his wife, Mary Dell, his brother, Wade Baker and wife Cora of Santa Rosa, California, 2 sons, Bryan Baker and wife Denise of Tallahassee, Florida, Bret Baker and wife Heather of Rockville, Indiana, 2 stepsons, Brett Lowry and wife Amber of Port Saint Joe, Florida, Bart Lowry and wife Brittany of Port Saint Joe, Florida, grandchildren Jeremy, Adam, Whitney, Bradley, Andy, Brooklyn, Braelyn, and great-grandchildren Brenya and Atlas.

Gene was a gathering point for family and friends to whom he was unwaveringly supportive and generous. His humor and wisdom will be missed dearly by his family and many friends.

Contributions in Gene’s memory may be made to Rensselaer American Legion Post #29.
