Peggy Lee Gies

Peggy Lee Gies, 77, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 29, 2020. She was born in Gary, Indiana on May 29, 1943, daughter of the late Leo E. Lancaster and Melva G. (Ferguson) Lancaster. She was a graduate of Merrillville High School with the Class of 1961.

On January 26, 1963, in Merrillville, Indiana she married Jerry Lee Gies. They were married for 52 years. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2015.

Peggy was a homemaker. She drove a school bus for the Tri-Creek School Corporation for 23 years. She enjoyed playing golf, riding her golf cart around her property, her computer, and shopping.

She is survived by one son, Michael T. (Johanna) Gies of Lowell, Indiana; one daughter, Susan R. Kaiser (Jeff Miller) of Rensselaer; four grandchildren: Jenna (fiancé Robert) Gies and Meghan Gies, both of Lowell, Christopher (Richelle) Iliff of Delphi, Indiana, and Joseph Iliff of Rensselaer; two great-grandchildren, Paityn and Dimitrius; two brothers, Richard (Cheryl) Lancaster of Peru, Indiana and William (Debbie) Lancaster of Wheatfield, Indiana; and one sister, Virginia (Tommy) Ratjczak of Hammond, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Gies; her parents, Leo and Melva Lancaster; and one sister, Lianna Ford.

Visitation will be Friday, October 9, 2020 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer.
