Richard Alan Grant

Richard Alan Grant, 86, of Fair Oaks, IN passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Franciscan Health Crown Point. He was born in Donovan, IL on June 28, 1939, son of the late Alan and Edna (Hunter) Grant.


He was a graduate of Donovan High School. His first marriage was to Donna Duby. She preceded him in death on June 1, 1993. His second marriage was to JoAnne Summers, and she survives.


Richard was a lifelong farmer. He loved being a farmer. He also drove a truck part-time hauling grain for Dawson Farm Center. He enjoyed mowing his yard and wood working. Richard had a sweet tooth. He loved peanut butter M&Ms and enjoyed frequent trips to Dairy Queen, where he was sure to get his senior discount.


He was a member of the Mt. Ayr United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed playing dartball when he was younger.


Richard was hardworking, humble, and tough. He will be greatly missed by his family.


He is survived by his wife, JoAnne Summers Grant of Fair Oaks, IN; six children: Mandy Gilson (Angelo Bovino) of Cedar Lake, IN, Connie Grant (Mark Peternell) of North Branch, MN, Craig (Cathy) Grant, Tammy Ellrod, and Ron (Kim) Summers, all of Morocco, IN; and Gary (Becky) Summers of Valparaiso, IN; eight grandchildren: Misty Clark, Vinnie Bovino (Catie), Amber (Cody) Head, Kaylee Ellrod, Kyle Ellrod, Mackenzie Summers (Matt), Logan Summers (fiancé Samantha), and Spencer Summers (fiancé Dana); three great-grandchildren: Conner Clark, Trent Clark (fiancé Kelsea), and Eisley Head; and one brother, Carrol (Janet) Grant of Auburn, IL.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Duby Grant and his parents.


Visitation will be Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral at noon (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Pastor Edwin Bontreger officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Morocco Fire Dept. or the Mt. Ayr United Methodist Church. Steinke Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements. Memories, condolences and photos may be shared with the family at www.SteinkeFuneralHome.com.
