Richard Allen Hobson

January 11, 1951 — June 22, 2020

Richard Allen “Rick” Hobson, 69, of Morocco, Indiana passed away Monday, June 22, 2020. He was born in Fairfield, Alabama, the son of Jesse Freeman Hobson and Nellie Mae (Bolton) Hobson.


Rick enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a firefighter. He did his basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and fire training at Fort Rucker in Alabama.


He worked as a crane operator at Republic/LTV Steel in Gary, Indiana, and as an industrial painter at GATX Steel in Hammond, Indiana painting rail cars.


He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Black Oak Aerie #2593 in Gary, the Izaak Walton League – Spring Lake Chapter in Hobart, Indiana, and the American Legion.


Rick was a diehard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and playing cards.


He is survived by his daughter, Heather Hobson of Whiting, Indiana; two brothers, Robert Hobson of Morocco, Indiana and Michael Hobson of Daytona, Florida; five sisters: Linda Huddleston (Kenny) of Georgia, Brenda Deal of Valparaiso, Indiana, Betty Price (Everett) of DeMotte, Indiana, Debra Ketchem (Becky) of Highland, Indiana and Sherry Belcher (David) of Princeton, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Jamice (Belmont) Hobson; parents, Jesse and Nellie Mae Hobson; three brothers: Jerry Hobson, Jimmy Hobson and Steve Hobson; one sister, Pam Whitworth; and his grandparents, Levi and Martha Bolton and Jesse and Nellie Hobson.
