October 10, 1951 — January 15, 2026

Morocco, Indiana

Richard Howard "Rick" McCann, Sr., of Morocco, IN, was born on October 10, 1951, in Dixon, IL. He passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, in Lafayette, IN, at the age of 74 years.

Rick's life was marked by his extensive career as the owner-operator of McCann Trucking, where he specialized in over-the-road, heavy haul, and specialty haul driving. After many dedicated years on the road, Rick retired in 2009, leaving behind a legacy that is fondly remembered by those he worked alongside.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Rick served from 1968 to 1971, earning honors as a sharpshooter and receiving the National Defense Service Medal for his commitment to service. His military background instilled in him a sense of duty and pride, which extended into various facets of his life.

On January 1, 1972, Rick married the love of his life, Joy Tellock, in Fremont, WI, and together they built a loving family anchored in mutual love and respect. Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Joy McCann; two sons, Richard "Rick" (Cory) McCann, Jr. and Nicholas "Nick" (Danielle) McCann, both of Morocco, IN; and four grandchildren, Kevin McCann, Jenna McCann, Kendra McCann, and Conner McCann, all of Morocco, IN, who brought immense joy to his life.

He was also the supportive brother to three sisters: Catherine McCann (Chris) Arnold of Hawley, PA, Sandra (Dennis) Sell of Morocco, IN, and Sherrie (Mike) Chapman of Rogers, AR. Additionally, he leaves behind a brother, Norman (Melody) Hopf of Grand Bay, AL, and three step-siblings: Irene (William) Monical, Laura Sutten, and Richard Neil McCann, Jr.

Rick was known for his sharp sense of humor and his commitment to giving back to the community. He served as a reserve police officer for Morocco, embracing his role in ensuring the safety and well-being of his neighbors. His passion for life was evident in his hobbies, which included riding his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle, taking memorable trips on historic Route 66, and camping adventures with Joy in their vintage 1964 DeCamp camper. He cherished the time spent with family and especially enjoyed attending demo derbies and sharing moments watching his grandson run with his half-trained service dog, Roscoe.

Rick was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Lee McCann; his mother, Arlene Hopf; and his father, Richard Neil McCann.

The community will gather to honor Rick's life during a visitation at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at noon. A Masonic service is scheduled to start at 11:45 a.m. Following the service, Rick will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery in Morocco, with military honors, acknowledging his service to the nation. A funeral luncheon will be held at the Morocco Community Center immediately following the graveside service.

Rick McCann's remarkable life will be celebrated and missed by many, leaving a legacy of laughter, service, and love that will resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
