Sergio L. Perez, age 54, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, in Lafayette, Indiana, surrounded by his family after an extended illness. Born on October 22, 1971, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Sergio’s journey took him from his humble beginnings to becoming a cherished member of his community in the United States.
Educated at Margarita Maza de Juarez High School in La Naranjita MPO de Guadalcazar, Mexico, Sergio carved out a career as a dedicated janitor at Advance Auto Parts distribution center in Remington, Indiana. His work was marked by a commitment to excellence and a determination that was part of his character.
Sergio was known for his stubbornness and infectious sense of humor, which brought warmth and laughter to those around him. A true family man, he adored his grandchildren: Kai, Parklynn, Adrian, and Quinn. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he had a unique ability to touch the hearts of everyone he met.
In addition to his professional life, Sergio had a wealth of interests that included cooking and gardening, passions that allowed him to express his creativity and share joy with others. He also enjoyed the sport of baseball in his younger years, cherishing the memories made on the field.
He is survived by his loving mother, Abrahana Limon Guardiola of Mexico; two sons, Scott (Kelsee) Searcy of Brookston, IN and Alex (Aleya) Perez of Rensselaer, IN; his cherished grandchildren; and a large extended family including his siblings: Gregoria Perez, Federico (Juana) Perez, Amalio (Cirila) Perez, Maria de Jesus (Federico) Perez, Jose (Fransisca) Perez, Matilde Perez, Micaela (Belen) Perez, and Eleazar Perez; nephew, Florentino (Kayla) Jimenez; cousins, Bernardo (Angelica) Limon and Hector Perez; and great-nieces and great-nephews: Alberto, Kaiden, Gabriella, Lesley, Johanna, Aly, Frankie, Fatima, and Meredith.
Sergio was preceded in death by his father, Lucino Perez Rocha, and his beloved daughter, Abrahana Michelle Perez. The legacy of his love and strength will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the joy he brought to his loved ones and the impact he had on their lives.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral at noon (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Rensselaer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
