Sharon Lee Stone

Sharon Lee Stone, 80, of Rensselaer, IN passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at the Rensselaer Care Center with her family by her side. She was born in Rensselaer on October 9, 1943, the daughter of Merle and Arlene (Scearcy) Murray. She was a 1961 graduate of Goodland High School.

On February 11, 1994, in Rensselaer, she married Kent W. “Stoney” Stone. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2015.

Sharon had worked at several area stores and restaurants over the years, including Ames, Pamida, McDonald’s and Dairy Queen. She had also worked in the laundry at the Rensselaer Care Center and in janitorial at St. Joseph’s College.

She was a baptized member of the First Presbyterian Church of Goodland and attended the Church of God in Gifford.

Sharon loved spending time with her family, especially her precious great-grandchildren. She also cherished her animals. She was especially fond of her Boston Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, and Pomeranian. Sharon enjoyed collecting angels and salt & pepper shakers, and watching wrestling on TV.

She is survived by her loving family: daughter Brenda Lee Giroux of Rensselaer, IN; four grandchildren: Nathan (fiancé Holly) Giroux and Katrina (Matthew) Harvey, both of Brook, IN, and Dustin Giroux (Jessica Merrill) and Jeremy (Allison) Conley, both of Rensselaer, IN; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kent W. Stone; daughter Dianna L. Giroux; parents Merle and Arlene Murray; brother William A. Murray; and several aunts and uncles.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 10 a.m until time of funeral at noon (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Pastor Gary Minard officiating. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Jasper County Animal Shelter.
