Shirley A. Gastineau

Shirley Ann Gastineau, 86, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. She was born in Rensselaer on March 27, 1937, daughter of John Richards and Emma (Lange) Richards. She was a 1955 graduate of Rensselaer High School.

On August 27, 1960 she married her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Leon “Gus” Gastineau. Together they raised four children: Jeff, Karen, David and Dan. Shirley worked as a bookkeeper at Farm Bureau in Pleasant Ridge for over 40 years. She enjoyed her job and working with the farmers. She attended Faith Christian Tabernacle. She was a volunteer in the oncology department at the former Jasper County Hospital and volunteered with Marriage Encounter Christian support group for many years. She enjoyed playing bunco and Sequence and she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by three children: Karen Gastineau and David Gastineau, both of Louisville, KY, and Dan (Lisa) Gastineau of Rensselaer; five grandchildren: Steffen (Aleah) Gastineau of Amsterdam, Simmeon Gastineau of Springfield, MO, Taylor Gastineau, Ezekiel Gastineau and Elijah Gastineau, all of Kansas City, MO; her sister, Doris Sears of Mt. Ayr; and daughter-in-law Tricia Gastineau of Rensselaer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Leon “Gus” Gastineau; son Jeff Gastineau; parents John and Emma Richards; and brother Billy Richards.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 noon (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Dr. James W. Blanchard officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Christian Tabernacle.
