Timothy Wayne Courtney, affectionately known as “Crazy Tim” by his friends and family, age 61, of Effingham, IL formerly of Rensselaer, IN passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2023 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. He was born in Gary, IN on Oct. 6, 1962, the son of Marvin Duane Courtney and Opal Pearl (Henson) Courtney.
Tim served in the National Guard and was deployed overseas during Desert Storm. He worked many different jobs over the years. When he was a boy he delivered the Post-Tribune and detasseled corn. He worked for Tysen’s Market in DeMotte; Jellystone RV Park in Roselawn; PerPak; Monon Trailer; Wabash National; Indiana Ribbon; Rose Acre Farms; and the Dairy Queen at the Wayfara Inn. He was also a talented handyman and could put almost anything together. He was also an avid recycler. Tim enjoyed helping others and he loved spending time with his family, especially his precious grandbabies.
He is survived by Peggy Wagner, his significant other of 20 years; three children: Crystal Renee Wagner of Effingham, IL, Cheryl Marie (Miguel) Serrano of Kentland, IN and Kayla Lynn (Jeremiah) Drye of Lakeland, FL; five siblings: Ronald Duane (Patricia Ann) Courtney of GA, Diana P. Courtney, Patricia S. Courtney, and Charles W. “Chuck” Courtney, all of Rensselaer, IN and Melvin (Sonya Lynn) Courtney of Delphi, IN. Fourteen grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Opal Courtney; one brother, Curtis Vernon Courtney; and one nephew, Trevor D. Courtney.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral at 12 p.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home, 403 N. Front St., Rensselaer, IN 47978. Pastor Randy Gann officiating. Burial will be at New Liberty Baptist Cemetery in Mineral Bluff, GA on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023. Steinke Funeral Home is honored to be handling the local arrangements.
