Vern W. “Bill” Widner, 73 of Rensselaer, passed away at Jasper County Hospital, Sunday evening, March 14, 2010. He was born in Rensselaer March 20, 1936, son of the late DeVern and Louise (Hayes) Widner. He was a lifetime area resident and was educated at the Rensselaer Public Schools. In 1985, in Rensselaer, he married Karen Burman. She survives. Before retirement he worked in construction and was an auto mechanic. He enjoyed working on computers. Children surviving are: Vernon D. Widner (wife, Tina) of Hebron; Naomia Widner of Remington; Tina Carter (Mrs. Orville) of Francesville; Jeral Stone of Brook; Mike Stone and Joetta Stone, both of Rensselaer. There are 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren surviving. Siblings are: Francis (wife, Lois) Widner of Winamac; Robert (wife, Linda) Widner of Texas; Charles (wife Connie) Widner of DeMotte; Phyliss (Mrs. Gerald) Young of Monon; Marge (Mrs. Ed) Glamkowski of Remington. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, 2 sons and a daughter. Friends may call at Steinke Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, from 4:00 P.M. until time of funeral service at 6:00 P.M. Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten officiating.
