Virginia Sue Riley

Virginia Sue “Jen” Riley, 76, of Goodland, IN passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024 at her daughter’s home in West Lafayette. She was born in Rensselaer, IN on April 18, 1947, the daughter of Albert Yoder and Lillian (Kissinger) Yoder. She was a 1966 graduate of Mt. Ayr High School.

On May 14, 1983 she married James Richard “Jim” Riley. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2022. Jen worked for Better Coil in Goodland for several years and attended the Goodland Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing dice with her family and she was known for her delicious brownies.

She is survived by her loving family: one daughter, Kim (David) Owens of West Lafayette; two children by marriage, JR Riley of Oklahoma and Jackie Walton of Huntsville, AL; two sisters, June (Jeff) Taylor of Goodland and Phyllis Stovall of St. Anne, IL; and one brother, Gene (Sheila) Yoder of Morocco, IN. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Chelsie Kittle of Lafayette, Justin (Allyson) Buschman of North Carolina, Dannielle (Jack) Timmons of Lafayette, Davey (Beth) Owens of Lafayette, Jocelyn (Josh) Maddox of Avon, IN, Raymond Peck, Michael Peck and Melody Peck, all of Georgia; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim; one son, Don Peck; one brother, Harold Yoder; and two sisters, Delores Stock and Harriet Bourelle.

Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral at 11 a.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Pastor Jeff Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Burr Oak Cemetery.
