Virginia Teresa Whittington

Jan 26, 1960 — Aug 12, 2026

On August 12, 2026, Virginia Teresa Whittington peacefully left this earth to be reunited with her beloved husband, Lynn. Known to family and friends as Ginny, she was born on January 26, 1960, to Joseph R. and Virginia T. (Gorondi) Zaborski, proudly claiming her place as the youngest, and, as she would often say, the best, of their eight children.

Ginny grew up in Hammond, Indiana, and graduated from Gavit High School. Her childhood was filled with simple joys: skating on a homemade ice rink, caring for a menagerie of pets, and making memories with her seven siblings. She was dearly loved, and relentlessly teased by her siblings Roseann (John) Rippe, Melody Zaborski, Corrine Sumichrast, and Greg (Kathy) Zaborski. She was preceded in death by her siblings Joey Zaborski, Susan Zaborski Rice, and Tim Zaborski, each of whom she lost far too soon.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Ginny spent much of her life serving others. She worked as a clerk assisting military families through the moving process before finding her calling in food service. She prepared meals for residents at Autumn Trace in Rensselaer, Indiana, and Courtyard Estates in Girard, Illinois, caring for others through her work. She concluded her years of service as a Cook Aide at Rensselaer Central High School.

Ginny found happiness in life’s everyday moments. She faithfully played 10,000 and Double Solitaire with her sister Roseann, enjoyed fishing at Sunset Lake, and cherished the companionship of her beloved cats, Lucky and Jazmine. Above all else, her greatest joy was her family—especially her four grandsons, Morgan, Murphy, Miles, and Miller Baratto. She treasured every visit with her daughter, Jennifer (Christian) Baratto, though family members often joked that her trips to Georgia were really for the boys. Ginny also delighted in surprise visits from extended family and lovingly included her brother-in-law Charlie (Cindy) in her ever-growing circle of affection.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial will take place in Georgia, where Ginny will be laid to rest beside her husband, Lynn.
