William R. "Bill" Swartz

William R. “Bill” Swartz, 71, of Brook, Indiana passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023. He was born in Rensselaer on June 15, 1952, the son of Raymond Swartz and Ardis (Tanner) Swartz. He was a graduate of Rensselaer Central High School, where he played varsity football for the Bombers. Bill served 6 years in the Indiana National Guard. On December 4, 1971, he married Sandra K. Putt.

Bill worked as a general foreman for INDOT for 35 years. He was an avid fan of the Rensselaer Bombers football team. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, and especially spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Sandy Swartz; three sons: Michael (Kisha) Swartz, Kurt Swartz, and Joe (Heather) Swartz; three grandchildren: Garrett Swartz, Raya Swartz, and Matthew Swartz; and two brothers, Robert (Cindy) Swartz and Brad (Cathy) Swartz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 3-7 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Matt Baughman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Weston Cemetery.
