Winfred A. Burrell, age 93 of Rensselaer, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Rensselaer Care Center. He was born in North Dakota on March 13, 1918, son of the late William and Anna (Robinson) Burrell.
Winfred graduated from Rensselaer High School and spent most of his life in the area. On June 25, 1956, he married Mary “Eugenia” (Durham) Burrell. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2011. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer. Winfred was a lifelong farmer in Jasper County. He always had a large garden, and shared the abundant fruits and vegetables with many family and friends. He and Eugenia also had many beautiful flowers in the yard around their home. Winfred loved to vacation with his family. He made many lifelong friends on his travels.
Winfred is survived by a step-daughter, Barbara Durham of Allendale, NJ; three nieces, Mary Hanley (husband: Ty) of Rensselaer, Marcy Teeny of Lafayette, and Sue Banister (husband: Ron) of DeMotte; and two nephews, Phil Baker of Rensselaer and Ray Burrell of Irvington, VA. One grandchild and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services will be held at Weston Cemetery on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Memorials in Winfred’s memory are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer.
