Obituary for Billie Lawson

Billie Joe Lawson, age 82 of Rensselaer, passed away at Jasper County Hospital on September 30th. He was born in Parke County, Indiana on August 28, 1927, a son of the late Marion Bishop and Ruth (Stokes) Lawson. He was educated at the Kingman Public Schools in Kingman, Indiana. He had resided in Rensselaer since 1948 and on January 1, 1951, in Rensselaer, he married Norma C. Roberts who survives. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Bill was a Service Technician for over 45 years at Davisson Oil Company in Rensselaer, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Jasper County Conservation Club and enjoyed refinishing furniture, gardening, wildlife and baseball. Surviving along with his wife, Norma are children; Charles Lawson (wife, Rhonda) of Veedersburg, Indiana; Cathy Schweiss (Mrs. Arnold) of Toledo, Ohio and Mary Hitchings (Mrs. Melvin) of Brook, Indiana. 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren survive. Siblings are, Virginia Crippin of Danville, IL; Dorothy Jovanovich of Clinton, IN; Barbara Bernell of Idaville, IN; Earl Ray “Jack” Lawson of Burnettsville, IN; and Leland “Skip” Lawson (wife, Sandy) of Covington, IN. Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister and a brother. Friends may visit on Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 8:30 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. (CDT) at the Steinke Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. to honor Billie’s life. Officiating will be Pastor Curt McIntyre. Family requests all memorials be made to the Jasper County Hospice. The Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer is handling the arrangements.
