Obituary for Carey Dowty

CAREY W. “RICK” DOWTY, age 62 of Rensselaer passed away at Clarian Arnett Hospital in Lafayette on September 23, 2009. He was born in Rensselaer on October 29, 1946 a son of the late William M. and Minnie Mary (Smith) Dowty. He was educated in the Rensselaer Public School system and was a lifetime Rensselaer resident. On July 29, 1973 in Kentland he married Victoria “Vicky” Lock. She survives. He had been a mechanic and welder for Talbert Trailers for 26 years. He was a member of the Rensselaer Moose Lodge and Royal Neighbors. Along with his wife, Vicky, a daughter, Angela S. (Mrs. Judah “J.B.”) Avila and grandson, Christopher Lee Dowty, both of Monticello survive. Siblings surviving are: Chester Glenn (wife, Marie) Smith of Francesville, Charles Dennis (wife, Betty Jo) Dowty of Phoenix, Arizona, Ruth (Mrs. Forrest) Pettet of Tampa, Florida, Mary (Mrs. John) Sayers of Avon, Indiana and Sylvia “Tillie” (Mrs. Charles) Edwards of Rensselaer. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, a sister, a great niece and a great nephew. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 26th at 10:00 A.M. at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Rensselaer. Memorials are suggested to the family.
