Obituary for Chris LaCosse

Chris Elaine LaCosse, 52, of Morocco passed away Wednesday morning, April 28th at her home in Morocco after battling cancer for over eight years. She was born in Rensselaer, a daughter of Evaleen (Watt) Couch of Kentland and the late Bernard L. Hanger. Chris was a lifetime Morocco area resident and a 1975 graduate of North Newton High School. On November 29, 1975, in Morocco she married the love of her life, Jeffrey “Jeff” Dale LaCosse. He survives. Chris began her working career at Willow Slough Game Preserve, and then became a stay-at-home Mom to love and nurture her family. She began substitute teaching, which she grew to love. This led into her graduating from IU Northwest in Gary with a teaching degree. She never quit continuing her education and was a teacher at Tri Creek School Corporation in Lowell since 1988. She was a member of Morocco First United Methodist Church. Chris had battled cancer for many, many years and was on the American Cancer’s National Poster. She was very active in the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life and the People to People Ambassador Program, which led to travel around the World. Surviving are her husband, Jeff; mother Evaleen Couch of Kentland and children, Matthew Ryan LaCosse (wife, Sunshine) and Holli Kristan LaCosse, all of Morocco. Six grandchildren survive; Autumn, Bailee, Hunter and Hayden LaCosse, and Brock and Brooklyn Mackey, all of Morocco. Also, surviving are a brother, Scott Hanger (wife, Nikki) of Lake Village; 3 sisters, Sally Conn of Brook, Susan Voight of Lake Village and Lorrie Swartz (Mrs. Kenny) of Fair Oaks. Her father preceded her in death. Friends may visit with the family Friday, April 30th from 2 until 8:00 P.M. at the Morocco Community Center. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 1st at 11:00 A.M. at the Morocco First United Methodist Church, Reverend Greg Waggoner officiating. Interment follows at Prairie Vine Cemetery in rural Newton County. A scholarship fund honoring Chris’ memory is being established and Memorials are suggested to be given to this Fund. Proper envelopes will be available at the Visitation, Funeral Service or at Steinke Funeral Home.
