Obituary for DeLora L. "De" Sayers

DeLora L. “De” Sayers, 64, of Rensselaer, passed away Sat., Nov. 16, 2013 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette. She was born in Goshen, IN on June 15, 1949, the daughter of Willard Warfel and Mary (Keim) Warfel. She graduated from Rensselaer Central High School with the Class of 1967, and was a lifelong area resident.

On June 7, 1970, in Rensselaer, De married her husband of 43 years, Carl Sayers. She was a clerical worker for the Jasper County Assessors Office and Rensselaer Central Middle School. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Hebron. She enjoyed baking Christmas cookies, reading and working with children.

De is survived by her loving family: husband Carl Sayers of Rensselaer; three sons: Michael Sayers (wife: Tammy) of Morocco, Tim Sayers (wife: Lisa) of Muscatine, IA, and Joshua Sayers (wife: Aimee) of Edinburgh, IN; one sister, Mary Edwards of Rensselaer; two brothers, Lloyd Warfel (wife: Bonnie) of Tucson, AZ and Tom Warfel (wife: Cindy) of Ft. Wayne; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Friends may call on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at 10 a.m. (CST) at the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Hebron with Pastor Frank McClure officiating. The church is located at 769 W. 800 South, Hebron, IN 46341. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Rensselaer. Memorials are suggested to the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Hebron.
