Elizabeth R. “Bette” Kanne, age 87 of Rensselaer, passed away August 22, 2009 at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer. Bette was born September 17, 1921 in Rensselaer, the daughter of John and Maud (DeMoss) Newcome, both deceased. She graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1939. She was married to Delos A. “Bunk” Kanne on September 25, 1940 in Rensselaer. He died June 4, 1994. She had been a clerk at Lucas Drug Store for a number of years and farmed with her husband. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Curtis Creek County Club, Rebekah Lodge, and an active member of the Jasper County Democratic Party, serving as the Vice Chairman for several years. She loved reading, playing golf and farming. She is survived by several nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and a sister.
