Ernest J. Davis, age 93 of rural Rensselaer passed away early Wednesday morning, August 4, 2010 at the Rensselaer Care Center. Ernest was born on August 5, 1916 in Thayer, Indiana and had been a resident of the Rensselaer area for 30 years. Formerly he had lived in New Jersey and South Bend, Indiana. On January 19, 1947 in Chicago he married Mary Eileen Dignan. She died in December of 1994. Ernest was a graduate of Mount Ayr High School and served in the Navy as an airplane mechanic during World War II. For 25 years he was employed as an accountant for Tenneco, Inc. He was a member of the V.F.W. and Moose Lodge in South Bend. One son survives, Larry Davis (wife, Cindy) of Remington. Also, surviving are 3 grandchildren, Christopher Davis of Indianapolis, Whitney Davis of Boise, ID and Shun Davis of Lafayette. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation will be Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 8:30 A.M. until time of service at 10:00 A.M. (Rensselaer Time), Pastor Dan Earhart officiating. Interment follows at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Rensselaer.
