Obituary for John Dale Brunton

John Dale Brunton, age 86, of Rensselaer, passed away on Sept. 1, 2014 with his loving family around him. He was born in Mount Ayr, IN on May 15, 1928 to Harry E. and Clelle Mae (Archibald) Brunton. After graduating from Mount Ayr High School, he joined the Navy, serving in active duty during WWII and the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the military in 1953, he obtained his undergraduate degree from Indiana State University and taught high school business courses in Chesterton, IN before relocating to Indianapolis, and later Rensselaer, where he worked for Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance Company as a field agent for 36 years before retiring in 1993.

He enjoyed reading, playing bridge, golf, and was a member of the Rensselaer Lions Club, Morocco American Legion Post #146, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Murat Shrine Temple.

John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Florence Ida (Behner) Brunton; three children: Sandy Carr (David) of Zionsville, IN, Mike Brunton (Shari) of Collinsville, IL and Lisa Korniak (Ed) of Rensselaer; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Fondrene Printy; his brothers Harry A. Brunton, Levere Brunton, Keith Brunton, Dean Brunton, and Jerry Brunton; and nephew Dale Brunton.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 5, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Father Frank Warthan officiating, with visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment with full military rites will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Morocco. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rensselaer Lions Club.
