Obituary for Kathryn Holbrook

KATHRYN HOLBROOK, age 90 formerly of Rensselaer, passed away at her home in Seminole, Florida on July 21, 2010. Kathryn had lived in Florida for over 35 years. She was born December 29, 1919 in Crown Point, Indiana, daughter of the late Ralph and Faye (Beach) Wright, grew up in Leroy, Indiana and graduated from Crown Point High School in 1936. On July 12, 1944, she married Glen S. Holbrook. He died July 4, 2005. While living in Rensselaer Kathryn and Glen owned the Star-Lite Motel and in 1954 became the owners of Northside Tavern. They moved to Lake Shafer, then to Largo, Florida where they lived until 5 or 6 years ago when Glen’s poor health necessitated their moving to Seminole to make their home with David and Sara. Kathryn was a wonderful cook, loving mother, daughter and sister. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing; golf and helping Glen build his business. She was always willing to help when needed. Surviving are son, David (wife: Sara) Holbrook of Seminole, Florida and sister, Phyllis Ann Fricke of Crown Point, Indiana. There are 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter surviving. Preceding her in death were her husband, 2 brothers, Gilbert Wright and Bob Wright, and 2 sisters, Ermagene Wright and Lorraine Pounds. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, July 26, 2010 from 8:00 A.M. until time of funeral at 10:00 A.M. at Steinke Funeral Home in Rensselaer. Pastor John Hostetter will officiate. Internment follows at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, Indiana. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
