Larry Gene Batchelor, Sr., 72, of Morocco, passed away early Sunday morning, August 12, 2012, with his family by his side. He was born in Brazil, Indiana on March 28, 1940, son of the late Melvin B. and Clara M. (Yarde) Batchelor. Larry graduated from Morocco High School with the Class of 1959. On September 10, 1961, in Morocco, he married Evelyn Kay. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2008.

Larry was a member of the Army Reserve National Guard and was retired from LTV Steel, where he worked as an overhead crane operator for 40 years. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, the Morocco Lions Club and the Moose Lodge.

Larry is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Jim) Gillette of Lafayette; two sons, Larry Jr. (Cindy) Batchelor of Hebron and Leon (Chris) Batchelor of Morocco; four brothers, Russell (Shirley) Batchelor of Winamac, Melvin (Deb) Batchelor of Wolcott, Jimmy (Margaret) Batchelor of Brazil, IN, and Ricky (Reg) Batchelor of Brazil, IN; three sisters, Elaine Lade of Beaverville, IL, Brenda (Fred) Moore of Bridgeton, IN, and Sandy (Rick) Shepard of Beaverville, IL; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn, and one brother, Darrell Batchelor.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. CDT at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 214 East Walnut Street in Morocco. Rev. Royal Voeller officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery. The family requests you consider memorial donations to the Morocco Lions Club or the Jasper County Hospital Home Health Care and Hospice.
