Obituary for Leonard McClatchey

Leonard Calvin McClatchey, age 84 of Morocco, passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 9, 2011, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, IL. He was born in Morocco on June 7, 1927, son of the late Harry Zeno McClatchey and Ellen (Whaley) McClatchey.

Leonard graduated from Morocco High School with the class of 1945. He attended Indiana University and graduated from Indiana Business College. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1945-1947. He received two commendations for his service: the Army of Occupation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Leonard worked as a Data Systems Analyst for the Texas - Illinois Natural Gas Pipeline Co. in Chicago for a number of years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Leonard enjoyed gardening and arranging the flowers that he grew in his yard. He loved spending time with “Lady,” his beloved dog.

Leonard is survived by three sisters, Ruth Cox of Kentland, Bonnie Cheek of Hammond, and Joyce Sheehan (husband: James) of Hammond. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Velma McClatchey Lockard, and his brother Edwin McClatchey.

Friends may call on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. CST at Steinke Funeral Home Brunton Chapel of Morocco, Pastor Larry Klingler officiating. Interment will follow at Buswell Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
