Obituary for Louis Rolls

Louis F. “Louie” Rolls, age 92 of Morocco, passed away at 12:02 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer. He was born in Morocco on March 10, 1919, son of the late Frederick and Mary Jane “Jennie” (Cripps) Rolls. He was the youngest of seven children. Louie attended school in Morocco and was a lifelong area resident.

On Dec. 19, 1972 in Morocco Louie married Jane McMillan. She preceded him in death on May 1, 1983. Louie served his country in the U.S. Army in WWII. He was a farmer and worked for Newell and Darwin Johnson and Bob Goddard, retiring in 1984. In his later years, he liked to help his son-in-law David on his farm. Louie was a member of the United Church of Morocco and was an avid reader of the Bible. He enjoyed watching The Lawrence Welk Show on television.

Louie is survived by three step-children: Laurena Watts (husband: David) of Morocco, Benny Smith (wife: Karen) of Warren, MI, and Lanny Smith of Cody, WY; six grandchildren: Sabrina Watts (fiancée Archie Reagan) and Richard Watts of Morocco, Joelene (Smith) Gonzalez (husband: Anthony), Aaron Smith, Abby Smith, and Andrew Smith, all of Wyoming. Also surviving are a niece, Barbara Carlson of Goshen; a great-nephew, Bob Carlson of Illinois; and a niece-in-law, Wilma Kresel of Morocco. Six great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Edyth Rolls Kresel, nephew Dr. George Kresel, great-nephew Dale Carlson and five brothers.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Steinke Funeral Home Brunton Chapel of Morocco. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at noon with Rev. Thomas D. Vance officiating. Interment will follow at Russell Chapel Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Morocco.
