Obituary for Nina Longstreth

NINA MARLENE LONGSTRETH, age 76 of Rensselaer passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Jasper County Hospital. Marlene was born October 27, 1933 in New York, daughter of the late Arthur and Kathryn Hodgkins. She was educated at Wellsville New York High School, graduating with the Class of 1951. Marlene lived in Rensselaer for most of her life and on June 15, 1957, in Mississippi she married Delos Leo Longstreth. Delos preceded her in death on July 25, 1998. Many people will remember Marlene babysitting babies and young children in her home on Milton Street,g which she did for over 30 years. She was a wonderful and loving mother and caregiver. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Rensselaer. Surviving are children: David L. (wife, Misty) Longstreth, Jeff L. Longstreth, Susan M. (Mrs. Dan) Hammond all of Rensselaer, Beth E. (Mrs. Jerry) Hammond of Guntersville, Alabama and Marianne N. (Mrs. Robert) Rowlands of Winamac, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Preceding Marlene in death were her parents, 7 brothers, 1 sister and 2 grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to donor’s choice. Friends may call at Steinke Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. until time of funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 17, 2010, Rev. Garry Wickert officiating. Internment follows at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in rural Rensselaer.
