Obituary for Orval Hudson

ORVAL WILLIAM “BILL” HUDSON, age 80 of Rensselaer passed away Saturday evening, June 12, 2010 at Rensselaer Care Center. Bill was born in Rensselaer on December 16, 1929, son of the late Orval R. and Kathryn (Abbott) Hudson. He was a lifetime Jasper County resident, graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1947 and attended St. Joseph College for a year. On December 16, 1949 in Rensselaer Bill married the love of his life, Barbara A. Walker. Together they recently celebrated 60 years of wonderful married life with many happy memories. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, former member of the Indiana National Guard, Charter Member of the Rensselaer Moose Lodge #2272 and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus. Bill was a Boy Scout Leader along with the late Cecil, John, and Edward Hudson. He was a former member of the Rensselaer City Council, served as Police Commissioner and was a member of the Indiana Sheriff’s Association. Bill owned and operated Hudson’s Grocery for 42 years before turning it into the very successful Country Corner Restaurant. He then worked for Talbert Manufacturing for 17 years, retiring in the fall of 2007. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving along with his wife, Barbara is children, Pam (Mrs. Dave) Lakin of Rensselaer, Mike Hudson of Rensselaer, Terry Tatlock of Monticello and Kim Chaney of Lafayette; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. His parents, 2 granddaughters and 1 great granddaughter preceded Bill in death. Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation. A graveside service for friends and family will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer with Fr. Tim Knepper officiating. The Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer is handling the arrangements.
